DAILY GOOD HABITS FOR HAPPY LIFE-6
Dear Friends,
PRACTICE OF NON-INJURY (AHIMSA)
Q.18.: How to practice
Non-injury (Ahimsa) in our daily life?
A: Many people think that practicing Non-injury [Ahimsa] means not to
injure someone physically alone and this concept is fundamentally wrong.
Because, total Non-injury [Ahimsa] means all our actions should reflect this
spiritual principle of non-injury or not harming others and our actions include
our Thoughts [Mental actions], Words [Verbal/Written actions] and Deeds
[physical actions] and so, we can injure or harm someone by our thoughts and
words too despite restraining from physical injury or harm to that person.
Ill will, prejudice, hatred,
unforgiving mind, envy, pessimistic outlook etc, are the thoughts that injure
others through such negative thoughts and so we should stop such thoughts if we
truly want to practice Non-injury [Ahimsa].
Rude/abusive words, calling bad
names, shouting & threatening, backbiting, blackmailing, ill-speech,
defaming, belittling, destructive criticism, giving misinformation through
publications to belittle others etc, are injurious or harmful to the people and
so such misuse of Words should be avoided if we truly want to practice
Non-injury [Ahimsa].
Finally the worst of our
actions i.e. physical abuses in terms of breaking, destroying, enslaving,
abusing, exploiting, beating, kidnapping, torturing, cutting, killing,
murdering etc to fellow humans, animals etc, do injure & harm them all
severely and so we have to avoid physical injury or harm to others if we truly
want to practice Non-injury [Ahimsa].
So, when we practice Non-injury
[Ahimsa], let us be constantly reminded that we cover all the three aspects of
our actions in terms of our Good Thoughts [Good will & positive mind], Good
Words [Good utterances & constructive writings] and Good Deeds [Not harming
others physically in any way], then only we can say that we are truly practicing
Non-injury [Ahimsa].
Benefits: It is said that Non-injury [Ahimsa] is the highest religion. The
beneficial effects of practicing Non-injury [Ahimsa] can be felt immediately in
our day to day life in terms of our peaceful mind, good mood, better output at
work, love & harmony in the family etc. When we practice Non-injury
[Ahimsa], we are more acceptable and welcome by the people, everywhere &
anywhere. We feel happier getting more love, support, care, help, emotional
closeness & understanding not only from the people all around but from the
nature surrounding us.
PS: It’s in the best interest one’s
own self that he/she practices non-injury
[ahimsa] to all, in its true spirit, on daily basis, so that it benefits
oneself and all others as well. Practicing non-injury [ahimsa] alone in its
true spirit can bring love, unity, peace & happiness among the people in
the world and also save the world from further environmental destructions.
Happiness for all!
