THOUGHTS ON INDIAN INDEPENDENCE!
THOUGHTS ON
INDIAN INDEPENDENCE!
Dear
Friends,
WordWeb
dictionary gives the meaning of ‘independence’ as:
1. Freedom
from control or influence of another or others
2. The state
of being able to support oneself without help from others
Some Synonyms
[similar meanings] of ‘Independence’ found in Google search are as below:
1. Self-government, self-rule, home-rule, self-legislation, self-determination, sovereignty, autonomy,
non-alignment, freedom, liberty.
2. Self-sufficiency, self-reliance, self-support, self-sustenance, self-standing.
3. Impartiality, neutrality, lack
of bias, lack of
prejudice, objectivity, open-mindedness, even-handedness, fairness, fair-mindedness, justice.
So, let us
discuss here whether India is truly independent or not in the light of the
meanings of ‘independence’ given above!
India is
celebrating its 71st Independence Day on 15 August 2017!
However, the
question is whether India is truly ‘independent’ now in spite of the political
freedom India got from the British Colonial Government on this date!
Is India
free from the influence of the erstwhile British Government?
The answer
is ‘NO’!
Because
India is still following many outdated laws left over from the colonial rule in
many of its social, military, police, administrative, educational laws!
When will
India enact its own laws that should serve the best interests of its people is
yet to be seen!
Is India
able to support itself without help from others?
Answer is
again ‘NO’!
There are
very few indigenous industrial and manufacturing companies in India that it can
call its own without so many collaborations with the foreign companies!
The standard
of research and development in India is truly backward if compared to the
industrially advanced countries!
The standard
of items indigenously manufactured in India are falling short of international
standards!
When will
India cope up in manufacturing field even with its neighbouring country ‘China’
that just a few decades back was no better than India but now emerging as the
manufacturing hub of the world!
How is
India doing about its:
self-government, self-rule, home-rule, self-legislation, self-determination, sovereignty, autonomy, non-alignment, freedom, liberty?
Well, yes,
some of these aspects are already fulfilled and some are on the way of
fulfilment!
Like
empowering of Panchayats at the village level as grass root administrative
foundations is on the way!
In spite of
so many crimes against females like female foeticide, female infanticide,
xesual assaults, rapes, bride burning etc, women empowerment is also under process
but not yet fully achieved!
Still many
children are not free from hunger, labour, begging, illiteracy etc, however, child
welfare programs are on the way but still below the expected results!
Misuses of
freedom is quite often seen among the people in India in the form of general
strikes, bandhs, hartals, economic/road blockades etc accompanied by obstructions
to daily life and destruction of public and private properties and loss of
livesetc!
Some areas
like in the North East India and in Kashmir, people are not able to enjoy their
full freedom due to the most undemocratic Army Law called AFSPA [Arms Forces
Special Power Act] enforced there still! Need to scrap AFSPA at the earliest!
How is
India in terms of its:
self-sufficiency, self-reliance, self-support, self-sustenance, self-standing?
Not yet!
India needs to put many more efforts in these regards!
How is
India in rendering justice and equity to its people?
Impartiality, neutrality, lack
of bias, lack of
prejudice, objectivity, open-mindedness, even-handedness, fairness, fair-mindedness, justice.
In these
aspects, India is lacking behind in many ways with unbalanced developments seen
in the country!
Developments
are taking place mostly in some urban areas but villages and small towns are
still lacking many essential facilities like power supply, water supply,
schools, hospitals, markets, roads etc.
In terms of
criminal justice, criminals are not punished in time and in befitting ways with
so many cases being mishandled through corruption and lots more cases kept
pending, thus ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ is still true in Indian
Justice system. As of the latest improvements, due to Supreme Courts support, some
hopes for justice to some pending cases are expected soon!
Prejudice is
prevalent among Indians; among general, by general towards different castes,
tribes, backward classes and among people from different regions that create
problems in social harmony!
Government
has to change the Indian constituency to make all citizens equal by deleting
all those outdated discriminatory provisions, instead to approach helping all the
poor people of this country irrespective of all man-made divisions!
Objective
suggestions
Indians
should stop blind following things, people but think and do things to serve
their best interests!
Indians need
to stop some old traditions if that no longer serve them for the better!
India needs
another agricultural revolution by making the hard working farmers happy and
prosperous!
India needs
industrial revolution in terms of manufacturing by promoting its own research
and developments not just copying or adopting other advanced countries in
collaborations!
Indians need
to understand that quality is more important than quantity in everything
especially in terms of population!
Unity in
diversity is the beauty of India and so, people should appreciate the
differences of the people and live in harmony with mutual respect.
Development
for all!
Happiness
for all!
These two
objectives are to be aimed at by the Indians and the Indian government so as to
make ‘independence’ meaningful for India!
Happiness for all!
